Classrooms at the Montessori Center of
Nyack offer a prepared environment where children are free to respond to
their natural drive to learn and work. The holistic curriculum,
implemented under the guidance of Montessori trained teachers, allows
each child to discover the joy of learning and develop social and
intellectual discipline that is the foundation for a happy and
productive future. Students are encouraged to acquire respectful and
caring attitudes.
Dr.
Montessori observed that in a classroom of children of mixed ages, the
younger children benefited by emulating the older children, and the
older children grew in strength and competency by helping the younger
children. To this end, our classes contain students ranging in age from
2 years 9 months through 5 years.
The
descriptions on this website indicate the kinds of activities to which
all children are exposed and from which they absorb lasting
impressions. Mastery is achieved according to your child’s personal
timetable of growth and ability. The activities are organized into
categories here for convenience, but in the classroom they are
interrelated.
